THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL OF OUR LADY: The Miraculous Medal, also known as the Medal of Our Lady of Graces, is the devotional medal originated through Saint Catherine Labouré in 1830. Catherine was a seminary sister (a novice French nun) at the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul in Paris, France when she witnessed Marian apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary.In describing the original vision, St. Catherine said the Blessed Mother appeared radiant as a sunrise, "in all her perfect beauty." During the apparitions, the Blessed Virgin requested to Catherine, the creation of a medal described to capture her likeness. In the depiction, Mary stands on a dome crushing a serpent beneath her feet. Rays shoot out from Mary's hands, which she told Catherine, "symbolize the graces I shed upon those who ask for them." Words from the vision form an oval frame around her: "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee." On the reverse side, a cross-and-bar surmounts a large, bold "M". Twelve stars disperse around the perimeter. Two hearts are depicted underneath the "M", the left, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, lapped with a crown of thorns, and the right, The Immaculate Heart of Mary, skewed by a sword. The Chapel of Our Lady of Graces of the Miraculous Medal resides where part of the mother house of the religious congregation Saint Vincent de Paul, in the exact place where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Catherine. In Roman Catholicism, sacramental medals play a crucial part in ones's spiritual life. Medals are worn not as a charms, but as powerful reminders of the supernatural protection and love of the Holy Father, Jesus, the heavenly Mother Mary and the communion of saints. The act of wearing a Catholic medal or gifting it for a Baptism, First Communion, or Confirmation, et.al., allows one to express that faith. Wearing a Catholic medal says “Lord, I am ready to receive your graces."

Your jewelry is handcrafted to be lasting, but gemstones, crystals, beads and metals are not eternal. Natural wear and tear will also affect your jewelry. By following these simple tips, however, you can maintain your jewelry’s beauty for as long as possible:
> DO NOT GET YOUR JEWELRY WET ~ Keep your jewelry away from moisture. It is best to remove your jewelry before washing your hands, while showering, exercising and swimming since contact with water can tarnish metals and ruin the finishes of druzys and gemstones.
> AVOID CONTACT WITH CHEMICALS ~ Perfume, soap, moisturizer, lotion, hand sanitizer and other chemicals can discolor metals and charms, may harm natural crystals, gemstones and druzys, and can also damage crafting materials. Be careful.
> AVOID HEAT EXPOSURE ~ Leaving your jewelry in sunlight or exposed to heat for an extended period of time can also cause beads and metal to discolor. Remember to remove your jewelry while exercising.
> STORE SAFELY ~ Always store your jewelry safely in a soft pouch or secured in a box or drawer. Never wear your jewelry to bed and remove when sleeping.
