On June 9, 2017, "Ukrpochta" introduced new postage stamps "EUROPA. Castles", released under the program "EUROPA". These novelties of philately are devoted to Medzhibozhsky Castle, which is located in the Khmelnytskyi Region, and Olessky Castle in the Lviv Region. Both structures are valuable architectural monuments that are not only worth visiting in person, but also worth adding to your collection of postage stamps with their image.
Medzhibozh Castle belongs to the monuments of fortification architecture of the 16th century. It is made in the Renaissance style and is located in the village of Medzhibozh, Khmelnytskyi region, on a promontory at the confluence of the Yuzhny Bug and Buzhok rivers. This fortress is included in the State Register of the National Cultural Heritage of Ukraine. It should be said that today historical and ethnographic museum expositions are located in the walled buildings of the castle, as well as the Museum of Memory of the Victims of the Holodomor 1932-1933. on Podolia and exhibition halls. For many years, the All-Ukrainian historical festival "Ancient Medzhibozh" takes place in the castle, and on these days the castle is visited by a large number of tourists.
Olessky Castle is a monument of architecture and history of the XIII-XVIII centuries. It is located in the town-type settlement of Olesko, Bug district, Lviv region, and is considered one of the oldest castles in Ukraine, which was probably built by one of the sons of the Galicia-Volyn prince Yury Lvovych. In 1989, Olessky Castle received the status of a museum-reserve, so today the fortress has become a place of famous exhibits. Historians have more than 1,500 exhibits, including many Ukrainian icons, wooden sculptures, a marble bust of Queen Varvara Radziwill, a portrait of tycoon Nikolai Vasiliy Pototsky, the battle painting "Battle of Vienna", a unique collection of works by the sculptor Ivan Pinzel, Western European tapestries in the Baroque style and mannerism, original furniture of the 17th-18th century and many other valuable historical monuments.
