This listing is for the 2023 ( but dated 1952 - 2022) Gold plated silver dollar issued to commemorate the 70 year reign of Elizabeth II as our head of state. Although it has the 2023 date on the reverse, the coin is ALSO double dated on the obverse with the special "Transition obverse".  For the year 2023 there is not just an obverse Queen effigy with the 2023 date on it.  Instead the 1952-2022 double date is being used to recognize Queen Elizabeth's 70 year reign.  Additionally, the tudor rose in the date symbolize her 70 reign and the 4 different effigies used on our coins in that time.The coin is dated on the obverse only. The obverse has the unique 4 effigy presentation highlighting the 4 Queen effigies used on our coins in the 70 years.  The coin weighs 36.07 grams and has a diameter of 23.17 mm. It is minted in selectively gold plated silver--gold is found on the 4 queen effigies and the rim on the obverse and on the  leaves and roses part of the legend on the reverse. It is a proof finish coin and is issued in a gorgeous presentation clamshell and purple box and is in mint condition.  Only 15,000 of these were minted.

While St. Edward’s Crown is only ever used for the coronation, the Imperial State Crown (or Crown of State) is worn on formal occasions, such as the State Opening of (British) Parliament.

The State Crown has been replaced 10 times since the Restoration in 1660. The one depicted on this coin was made for the coronation of King George VI in 1937; it is a replica of the crown designed for Queen Elizabeth II’s great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, in 1838.
