William Louis (Bill) Dickingson (1903-2008) was elected to the U. S. House of Representatives in 1965 after switching his political affiliation from Democrat to Republican the previous year. He represented the state's 2nd Congressional district from January 1965 until January 1993, making him the longest serving House member in Alabama history.  His efforts in Congress resulted in significant Federal infrastructure spending and economic development in Alabama.  He was also a supporter of active engagement with Communism during the Cold War.  For sale:  1972 posted campaign postcard inviting the recipient to the opening of his Montgomery County office.  Moderate age related wear:  some flecking of color on postcards front; back is lightly toned (8 on scale of 10).
