In 2006, American Girl released Jess McConnell as the fourth Girl of the Year doll. Jess was the first doll that American Girl has released to carry the Girl of the Year title and first released on January 1st. 

"Jess is excited to leave the United States for the first time and travel to Belize in Central America with her archeologist parents. They spend five months at a dig of ancient Maya ruins. In Belize, Jess discovers lots of new things about the world-and about herself" (American Girl Encyclopedia 54).
