AMD has brought a new 790FX chipset, on the basis of which this new Microstar 790GX-G65 motherboard is built. The board has a socket for the new Phenom II X3 and Phenom II X4 processors, i.e. processors with an AM3 socket. Memory can be installed in four DIMM slots with a maximum capacity of up to 16 GB (DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600(OC)). The memory controller in the processor is dual-channel, which means double the throughput of the memory bus when the memory is installed in pairs.

Thanks to the chipset, the board can offer two PCI-E x16 slots and with it the possibility to use CrossFire technology, thanks to which we can have great graphics performance. We can also use the integrated ATI Radeon HD3300 graphics core or use Hybrid CrossFire technology. Two classic PCI slots and two PCIe x1 slots are also available.

Of course, there is a Realtek 8111DL gigabit network chip on board. An eight-channel sound card with a Realtek ALC889 chip is also integrated. For connecting hard drives, the chipset provides one classic (parallel) IDE channel and five Serial ATA ports. As a matter of course, there is a RAID array option.

The chipset offers nine USB 2.0 ports, six of which are located on the back of the board, and there is also an eSATA port. There is also an interface 1x IEEE1394 port (optional). Output from the graphics card is possible using the D-SUB connector, DVI, and there is also an HDMI port. The motherboard format is classic ATX with dimensions of 30.4 x 24.5 cm.
