Description

This is an early 1900s wooden bucket ice cream maker with a hand crank.

The ice cream maker consists of a large wooden bucket, an iron cylinder, an inside churner which fits inside the cylinder and a large hand crank which fits on the top.

The maker of this churner is
'Reliance Husqvarna Sweden'

'This Reliance brand ice-cream churn, for making small quantities of ice cream at home, was made in Husqvarna, Sweden, between 1900 and 1930. The cream and other ingredients were placed in the metal cylinder, surrounded by a mixture of ice and salt (to make the ice colder). The handle was used to rotate the cylinder to stop ice crystals from forming, for a smooth texture. The ice cream could then be packed in moulds to create shapes.'

The maker's mark is embossed into the iron churning tool along with the quantity of ice cream it could make:
'3 QTS'

The wooden bucket has a handle and parts of the original Reliance label
