July 6th, 2015 marked the 600th anniversary of his death - Hus' execution at the Council of Constance sparked the Hussite Revolution in Bohemia which was Europe's first Reformation and earned Bohemia a momentary level of religious freedom, recognized by the Basel Compacts. A hundred years later, Luther would identify with Hus and his views.
One hundred years later after pondering Hus' writings over with Melanchthon, Luther was driven to write to Spalatin: "I have hitherto taught and held all the opinions of Hus without knowing it. "
