This pattern was crafted to commemorate the victories of Admiral Dewey
in the Spanish American War. It features the Admiral's image in a
laurel wreath, along with images of his ship, the Olympia, canons, flags
and swords.
Dimensions: The pitcher measures 9 1/4" high, with a 4 3/4" opening.
Marks/Dates:
c. 1890's. Beatty-Brady Glass Co. According to the website "Real or
Repro", there were two commemorative pitchers made by Beatty-Brady. One
has been widely reproduced. This is the other, and as described on
their website "The other original Dewey pitcher also features a portrait
of the
Admiral. The bottom of this pitcher has round cannon balls rather than
pointed artillery shells in the Gridley version. The reverse side
features the battleship Olympia instead of the command to Gridley."
Condition: No cracks, chips or other damage. There is a small indentation in the
rim...the edges are smooth and it looks like a manufacturing issue, not damage (see photo).
Vintage
glass may show characteristics of age, including allowable base wear,
bubbles, pattern irregularities, straw marks (inclusions/cooling marks)
or mold marks. And while free of cracks, chips and excessive wear
(unless specified above), pieces may show signs of gentle use,
including light utensil marks and color variations.
