Please note: It is advisable to remove the old dirty and dried up fluid before a fresh charge of Silicone Oil
can be applied! Sometimes the addition of very little 100K or 200K fluid gives better results depending on personal preferences! The relevant parts of the service manual and instructions in photos serve as an aid to buyers. The photos are from my personal collection of Thorens turntables. I was inspired by a lot of videos on the internet and you should check for videos of your particular model of turntable. The work can be carried out by most people and require basic skills and tools. Always lock your tonearm to the post with a piece of string or wire and remove rubber mat, platter and other loose parts before turning over the record player for repair.
Kit contains 5 syringes with approximately 2ml in each syringe. As per service manuals, 100000cSt, 200000cSt, 300000cSt plus 500000cSt as well as by popular demand, now also includes 1M (1000000cSt) for even heavier tonearms silicone oil to be used for smooth tonearm movement and
improvement in performance. After years of use the original fluid has dried up or
dust and dirt are causing the fluid to become more frictional. Cleaning and applying
fresh fluid is advisable to see if the problem can be resolved. For comparisons
sake, 200k cSt has more or less the consistency of honey and 1 cSt is the
viscosity of water and the analogy here is like dropping a spoon in a glass of
water or a pot of honey.....the spoon takes a long time to sink to the bottom
in honey! Unless you are a repair shop, all you need are 2ml and not the whole
big bottle. Therefore, I am selling off my surplus stock in an easy to apply
syringe (a needle is not required nor is it convenient) and small quantities that an enthusiast would need! The
100K is for those that need a faster movement or have a light tonearm. 200K is the usual cSt required for most Thorens models, 300K for a more slower drop and is used in most models of Technics/DUAL turntables and 500K for Sony, DUAL or
heavy tonearms and an even slower drop to cater for personal preferences. Due to popular requests, I now supply 1 large blunt needle, the 500K will not pass through smaller needles. 1M is used for even heavier tonearms.
