Bolt (door latch, latch) - a large latch. It is mainly used to lock doors, gates, hatches and so on in simple cases.

Bolts are usually used to lock gates. Small bolts are used to lock hinged shutters.

The part of the lock that directly locks the closing object is also called the deadbolt or deadbolt. There are locks with transverse and rod bolts.
