A 'hot' version  of the Escort Mk3, the XR3, was created from the outset, in order to compete with the Volkswagen Golf GTi and instantly caught the public's imagination and becoming the cult car of the 1980's. In 1981 the front-wheel-drive RS1600i was the first Escort to use a fuel-injected engine and the first to use a five-speed gearbox, while the Escort RS Turbo was the first to use a turbocharged engine and a limited-slip differential. 1992 saw the launch or the RS Cosworth, using the turbocharged 2.0 L Cosworth 16-valve engine, generating some 227 PS (167kw) and capable of 225 km/h (140mph), as well as having four-wheel drive. Its most memorable feature was its extremely large 'whale-tail' tailgate spoiler.

This superb print, from original illustrations celebrates the history of the sports and high-performance Mark 3 to Mark 5 Escorts, produced between 1981 and 1996. Printed on thick 230gsm paper it is suitable for framing with a mount or without.
