World War I (1914-18) Commemorative Cufflinks

These are a beautiful pair of cufflinks made with genuine British Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) buttons (King George V) from the era of the First World War, over 105 years ago.  This pair of cufflinks is made from gilt brass officers’ buttons.  The RNAS only existed from 1914 until 1918 and along with the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) was the pre-cursor of the modern RAF; the RNAS and RFC merged in 1918 to form the RAF.  It formed from a naval air detachment and the air battalion of the Royal Engineers.  When war broke out it consisted of only around 700 personnel, this had increased to over 55,000 and 3000 aircraft by 1918.  The cufflinks are made with a swivel back with an attractive diamond pattern on the swivel.  They are made using cuff buttons from a tunic, perfect in size for cufflinks and are 16 mm in diameter.

They represent a unique part of aviation, RAF and First World War history.  The very rare brass buttons have been carefully cleaned to retain the original character of the buttons which are over 105 years old, whilst highlighting the beautiful details of these original buttons.

This is a truly unique gift and a chance to own a small piece of history lovingly restored and made into a beautiful pair of cufflinks.  They are presented in a luxury wooden cufflink box and cardboard cover to make them the perfect present.
