Antique Shadowbox Picture Frame.
American, made in the Victorian era, circa 1875.
Complex, two-part frame , mitered corners.
Carved walnut wood with composition inner border.
The inner section has a concave cove ( gold-colored inner lip ).
Rounded, convex and concave surfaces.

Constructed with old square-cut nails ( 19th century ).
A long-ago owner added a few additional nails to strengthen the frame.
The frame itself is around 150+ years old.

A years-ago owner painted the outside surfaces of the frame ; green , gold, and black.
( see the photos )
The green paint has faded and chipped over time to produce a beautiful, distressed appearance which comes with the passing of many years.

This old, faded green paint is also an uncommon color.
The frame would look fantastic with a 19th century or early 1900s portrait or other photograph !
This color would work particularly well with a picture or photo ( or even a small painting ) with a seaside or nautical theme - a portrait of a sailor or sea captain, for instance, or a beach scene, or a seascape , etc., etc.
