Before emails, postcards were the most common way to communicate over long distances, and have long been an avenue for popular artistic expression. On offer here is a printed postcard from 1940s Germany featuring a painting by Salomon Koninck (1609 - 1656), a Dutch painter of genre scenes and portraits in a beautiful salvaged silver wooden frame.

The frame is older but not as old as the card. Has a new plastic back stand for easy display. If you are an art aficionado, this card features his famous painting "The Hermit". He was influenced by Rembrandt (his contemporary) and his Baroque style religious painting looks great in ornate frames.

The cards exhibit some age-related wear, as would be expected from postcards of this age, but is still in good shape. Do note that the publisher, Kunstanstalt Stengel & Co., GmbH was a book printing and bookbinding company in Dresden, founded in 1885 by Emil Stengel and Heinrich Markert. By 1889, the business was known as Stengel & Co and operated until the defeat of the Germans in 1945.
