In 1934, Cadbury's launched a new line, Children's Bournville Cocoa. Inside every tin was a free lead animal or "Cococub". The line was an unprecedented success and in 1936 the first issue of The Cococub News was published for children that had written in to join the Cococubs Club.

Roughly 10 magazines were published each year from  January 1936 until August 1939 when the final magazine was published, due to the outbreak of the war.
