TOPAZ and Turquoise Czech Art Glass CRUET Original Stopper "Georges Sand" Style
Beautiful antique art glass cruet made in Bohemia around the turn of the last century, from 1870 to 1900.
The legend says that this particular color combination had been made madly popular by the famous French novelist Georges Sand, who had been gifted a decanter set in that color combination by Frederick Chopin, the famous composer. A line called "Georges Sand" was produced by LeGras and Portieux glass, and since it became one of the hot items of the era, it was copied by many. I believe this is probably one of the copies, made in Bohemia.
This piece measures 7" tall and is approximately 3.25" wide at the widest point. The body of the cruet/decanter is a topaz/amber colored glass, and the handle and stopper are a rich turquoise colored glass.
No chips, cracks or any other damage. The bottom has a ground and finished pontil area as shown. The stopper is original.
