2023 acrylic, signed and dated,7"x5" ,of street in Ystradgynlais 1963, South Wales by Bill Payne , gallery and museum artist born in 1951 and living in Worcestershire. In the style of the great neoromantic artist John Piper.Piper lived and painted in North Wales after the war then moved to paint Pembrokeshire. He could paint in a semi realistic way with abstracted areas of colour and accents of black .He was a pre eminent print maker. This is a more loose interpretation of his style .He painted Swansea scenes in this way highlighting sketchy outlines with blocks and strokes of wonderful pastel colours My parents were Welsh and I worked for a Cardiff potato merchant in the 1970's delivering potatoes to the many chip shops in the Swansea and south Wales area..My youngest son went to Swansea Uni so I enjoyed revisiting the area.An area of Dylan Thomas, the smell of the Port Talbot steelworks and the wonderful sound of Welsh voices.
