Prickly Pear / Indian Fig Opuntia (Opuntia ficus indica) PAD, Organically Grown

The Prickly Pear / Indian Fig (Opuntia ficus indica) is a domesticated veriety of the original species believed to have originated from Mexico. The edible pads and fruit are nutritionally packed with health-benefiting vitamins and minerals and commonly grown throughout the world as an agricultural crop. It is a fast growing, desert (dry) and frost hardy plant which reaches up to 3-5 m tall and produces three distinct coloured flowers of white, yellow, and red in late Spring to Summer. It thrives in a full-sun to part-shade position.

We currently have plants that bear three types of fruit. The fruit from the red variety is described as tasting like a very sweet watermelon with a berry-like flavour. The orange fruit variety tastes like a very sweet watermelon with hints of oranges and the yellow fruit tastes of watermelon and lemons.

About our pads:

We have limited number of pads which will be freshly harvested once order has been placed. Due to the nature of the product, the pad/s supplied will vary in size of a minimum of approximately 20 -25 cm long. Rooted pads are derived from either the Red or Orange Fruiting variety and will be sent bare-rooted.

We ship Australia-wide except NT, Tas & WA due to quarantine restrictions. Once the order has been paid, pad/s will be harvested and dispatched within 3 working days with rooting instructions.

All of our plant items are grown and nurtured in a completely spray-free environment. We do not use any chemical or commercial ‘organically-approved’ pesticides or herbicides so you can be assured that all of our plant products are 100% organically grown.
