This is an antique bronze ashtray featuring the British Royal Coat of Arms

Material: Solid Bronze

British Royal Coat of Arms is the raised feature on this leaf or shell shaped ashtray with two bronze legs on the bottom for stability.

The Royal Coat of Arms reads: DIEU ET MON DROIT, and features a lion and a unicorn.
DIEU ET MON DROIT translates to "God and my right." It was adopted as the royal motto of England by Henry V (1386-1422).

"It was not unusual for the royal coat of arms of the Kingdom of England to have a French rather than English motto, given that Norman French was the primary language of the English Royal Court and ruling class following the rule of William the Conqueror of Normandy and later the Plantagenets. Another Old French phrase also appears in the full achievement of the Royal Arms: the motto of the Order of the GarterHoni soit qui mal y pense ("Shamed be the one who thinks ill of it"), appears on a representation of a garter behind the shield. Modern French spelling has changed honi to honni, but the motto has not been updated." -- Wikipedia

The logo impressed on back of the ashtray is a rhombus shape that has the letters H.B. in it.

The end of the leaf or shell shape has the words: "SEPTEMBER" 1907." impressed on it.

It measures approximately 5" L  X 4" W

Condition: Very good, has some darkened areas from ash residue. It also has been cleaned at sometime in it's 116 years as there are traces of the cleaner used in the indentations. See photos.
