A thousand uses. Will come in very handy for emergencies and those hard to fix repairs!
NOTE: This heavy duty heat sink requires the high heat from an electric heat gun or flame from a propane torch or similar. The propane torch works twice as fast as the heat gun yet you need not worry about burn-thru or melting as this heat sink material is very thick and durable - just keep the flame moving. Hair dryers or cigarette lighters will not shrink this wrap!! Theses are specifically designed to be used with high heat electric guns or propane torches.
Bonds to metals, wood, plastics, rubber, neoprene, polyethylene. Surrounds round tubes, rectangular shapes, ropes, shapes having varying diameters. Irregular shaped components are not a problem. The adhesive is very similar to your standard polyurethane adhesive/sealants.
3M 2000 IMCSN has a wide application range as it covers diameters in ranges 0.7 - 2.0 inch or 18.0 - 51.0 mm.
Note this CFTV-1700 heat shrink tubing size can be used in place of other tubing sizes such as: CFTV-750, CFTV-1100, CFTV-1300, CFTV-1500 and even CFTV-2000 - depending on the use and the sizes of the components to be surrounded.
In addition to standard cable and connector applications, here are other suitable applications:
Grips: Perfect for tool handle grips - see my photos of actual hammer handles, clamp handle, wheelbarrow handles. Very grippy after it's shrink wrapped and it will not roll off or turn when twisted. Too many uses for this.
Sports Grips: A vendor in Hawaii used a hundred feet exclusively for replacing taped grips on sports racket rentals.
Cable Repair Sleeve for Repair & Retrofit without Disconnecting: It even works like the CANUSA QuickSeal version of heat shrink wraparound flat sleeve without the need for disconnection or when the tube itself cannot be slipped over a thicker diameter section or end piece such as in retro-fitment and repairs or when interruption of service is not possible. Refer to the 2nd last photo of the wraparound sleeve on the aluminum pole. Process: (1) cut tubing length required (2) slit lengthwise - only obviously! (3) wrap around components (4) heat and hold to fuse the closing end to form a closed tube (5) heat shrink the remaining portions to form a tight and waterproof fit. Of course, due to the need for overlap, the max size of the component to be wrapped and surrounded will be decreased due to the amount of overlap needed.
Marine, Automotive and Industrial Use: Wiring harnesses, industrial splices, breakouts and cable to connector lug transitions. Cord strain relief, waterproofing connections, abrasion resistance from friction causing interference, repairing weathered or damaged wires and connections. Repair heavy duty extension cords.
Strain Relief and Leaking Hoses: Lastly, a sample of my repair on an old weathered and leaking GoodYear rubber air hose - still going strong eight years later. Since the tensile strength of this heat shrink is minimum 1500 psi and minimum 1100 psi when aged (150°C@168 hrs) plus the properties of the inner adhesive lining, it easily fixed the leaking air hose. Refer to the last photo with the red air hose. Will be using more of this heat wrap as strain relief to reinforce other hose and cables before they junk out.
Water Hoses: I have repaired multiple commercial (rubber and poly) water hose line breaks. Those have lasted for several years with no signs of deterioration or weathering. They are in use all the time and in direct summer sun and stored in freezing snow - of course no more leaks. I'll bet this stuff can be used as a temporary fix (or permanent fix) on a leaking copper or PEX pipe. What other uses might there be???
Engine Hoses/Tubes: I have repaired expensive German engine hoses soft rubber and rigid poly types having bends. Save hundreds of dollars and they won't likely ever break or fail again.
Hint: A Better Handle Grip: Before wrapping with the adhesive lined heat shrink, wrap the piece in need of renewal with your own materials such as electrical tape and for added strength wrap with layers of duct tape before the shrink tubing. Create your own shape and style of grip. Or double amount of heat shrink wrap for added wall thickness. Wheelbarrow handles: first add a one to two inch section of wrap placed at the center of the handle then add the wrap (~5") for the whole handle - result is an improved grip with a balled center for the palm to contour around - like a swelled handle providing increased grip.
Hint: Sealing Off Ends: To wrap ends closed, easiest way is to wrap and mold the end over with your palms using any simple rubber palmed gloves - holding the wrap in place as it cools.
Reflowing: Once heated, the wrap can again be expanded, thinned/stretched for your purposes AND can be slid/moved into the position needed - even after the wrap has shrunk and cooled. Can't do that with heat shrink that doesn't have that lining of adhesive!
Environmentally Seals and Mechanically Protects
Adhesive lining which flows when heated providing a waterproof seal for splice and connector mechanical protection. Adhesive will not drip.
