lovely antique Napoleonic prisoner of war box. The box is stamped in
gilt lettering inside "Dreyfous Paris London Newyork" so I think was
acquired by the prisoner and then decorated in order to be sold to
Prison visitors to raise funds for better food. The box has an image of a
grand building on the top and a scratch carved title "La comedie
Italienne" so presumably a theatre or opera house. The box is in good
solid condition with a few small pieces of straw missing. 13.6cms wide,
9cms deep and 3cms tall.
