AUTO 100 World's Greatest Car Collection, COMPLETE ALBUM, EXCELLENT

This 1985 vintage AUTO 100 album in 306 pages combines:

(a) history and description of 361 different cars from all over the world and all eras;

(b) photo album - full page color plates - of 61 of these cars;

(c) stamp album - 670 stamps depicting all 361 cars; and

(d) profiles of 60 noted manufacturers, designers and race car drivers.

This album, titled The World's Greatest Car Collection, is COMPLETE, and in excellent condition, both the cover and the pages; well maintained since new.  No stains, tears, markings or other blemishes.  All stamps are in mint condition in their original glassine stamp displays.

To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Automobile, a group of six English-speaking nations (Grenada, Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Bequia & Union Island, and Tuvalu) assembled a collection of postage stamps featuring cars. This collection is said to be the most comprehensive collection of car stamps ever issued. It commemorates important and historic road and race cars, the designers, the racers, and manufacturers from around the world.  The entire collection of stamps is called 'The World's Greatest Car Collection' and is assembled in this album, along with photos and history and descriptions.

The stamps from all but Grenada have a pair for each car.  The first has a typical view showing side and front.  The second has both direct front and side view, often as an outline rather than a photo.  The stamps from Grenada have the same three views, but all on one double sized stamp.  [As a result, some people have apparently miscounted the number of stamps in the collection, by counting 4 stamps on a Grenada page rather than the actual 2.]

The album was produced starting in 1984 when the Stamp Collectors Society of America issued a monthly series of pages, each monthly issue including pages of stamps, full color plates and profiles.  The complete set is 306 pages, held in a six-ring black album with gold lettering, which was provided exclusively to subscribers.  In addition to the 306 numbered pages there is an appendix describing the issuing nations and listing the cars depicted in stamps, the color plates and the profiles.

My album for sale is complete with the cover album, all 306 pages, and the appendix.  Generally you will only see incomplete albums for sale; as original subscriptions were not fully completed, or owners broke up the complete set for one reason or another.

This album is a special piece of automotive history.  The combination of history and descriptions of a wide variety of cars, beautiful photos, and lovely stamps yields hours of pleasure.

As an added BONUS, this album contains a separate Locomotives of the World collection, also issued by the Stamp Collectors Society of America, which consists of 18 pages including the cover page, in the same format as the AUTO 100 collection.  There are 24 stamps depicting famous locomotives, with history and descriptions; general train history; profiles; and a glossary.
