This flyer is for a fascinating bill of entertainment at the Hippodrome Theatre of Varieties in Brighton’s Middle Street but it is sadly and frustratingly undated. Appearing on the bill were the “Eight Lancashire Lads”, “Glee singers, sand, buck and wooden shoe dancers”. From March 1899 to December 1900 this act included the future film star Charlie Chaplin - further research is necessary in Brighton local newspapers to determine whether he was in the troupe at the time this flyer was printed. Also on the bill: the Manhattan Comedy Four, Guy Ryder, Lizette Troupe, Morrell & Evans, Tom Lloyd, The Perez, Dora Martine, comic juggler Griff, Sam Kelly and Julius Howells Pantomime Company. The single-sided 13.3cm x 21cm flyer is in good clean condition. You may not receive exactly the one pictured, but one in very similar condition, with just a tiny hole and the most minor signs of wear. There may also be light creasing and age-toning at the extreme margins.
