Battle of Trafalgar (1805) Commemorative Cufflinks
These are a truly beautiful pair
of cufflinks made with British Queen Victoria Naval General Service Medal (1847)
miniatures. The medal ribbons have ‘Trafalgar’
clasps (awarded for service in the Battle of Trafalgar during the Napoleonic
Wars, famous for the victory of Admiral Lord Nelson over the combined French
and Spanish fleets). The Naval GSM was
unusual in being commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1847 but awarded for various
naval actions between 1793 – 1840. The
pair of cufflinks are made from two antiqued silver miniature medals showing the
obverse (Queen’s head) and the ‘Trafalgar’ clasp. The medal was awarded to surviving claimants
and so for the ‘Trafalgar’ clasp where 42 years had passed since the battle
only 1710 were awarded. The cufflinks
are made with a swivel back with an attractive diamond pattern on the swivel
and are 18 mm in diameter.
They represent a unique part of
history and the beautiful miniature medals, ribbons and clasps have been
carefully cleaned and mounted to retain some of the original character of the
medals, whilst highlighting the beautiful details of these medals.
This is a truly unique gift and a
chance to own a small piece of British and Naval history lovingly restored and
made into a beautiful pair of cufflinks.
They are presented in a luxury wooden cufflink box and cardboard cover
to make them the perfect present.
