I AM NOT SELLING A KIT, only a full-size copy of my original kit PLAN & parts patterns for an Eagle Model PIPER CUB COUPE J-4 (FF or RC) model. The PLAN has how-to-build-it instructions & drawings so scratch-builders will have no problems.

"I never heard of a J-4 Cub!" you say. Piper started selling this new side-by-side seating J-4 Cub Coupe in 1938. World War 2 started soon and it never came back after the War. The tricycle gear (think Colt & Tri-Pacer) took over and tail draggers disappeared.

THE ORIGINAL KIT BOASTED IT COULD BE BUILT AS FREE FLIGHT, CONTROL LINE, TETHERED AND BY GAS OR RUBBER POWER!!!!

The PLAN shows the model powered by rubber or a Super Atom .09 ignition engine. This engine didn't put out much power so you can power it with a 1/2A engine or electric equivalent today. To make this a 1 or 2 channel RC will not be difficult. The model is a free flight design so the dihedral at the wing tips is high enough to cause the model to roll out of a turn into level flight if you add only one RC channel.

Pictures 6, 7 & 8 are of a vintage flight test report on the full-size J-4 airplane. I include a copy of it for your enjoyment.

As a BONUS I include a very nice scale 3-view document to increase your admiration of this airplane.

Pop’s Handy Hint from an old, old timer: “When building a vintage model do 2 things: (1) use hardwood wing spars and (2) use the stabilizer the designer put on his model. Never "simplify" things by replacing a lifting stab with a flat plate stab or a flat plate stab with a lifting stab. Also: Leave the incidence between the stab and wing as it was drawn. I've built and flown many old timers as rudder-only or 2-channel RCs.”
