EDO SERIES
centuries-old tradition. Wood grown over decades. One year development time. Everything for the moment of the perfect shave. The perfect design of the blade pays homage to the Japanese art of blacksmithing. Let them slide over your face and feel the attention to detail that makes this piece iconic. The sustainable walnut, maple, spruce and beech wood of the handles has been compressed and hardened to such an extent using a new process that it easily withstands water and soap. After the shave, the knife is far too good to disappear in the case: the polished tang and spine as well as the innovative shape set visual accents.
SCOPE OF DELIVERY: razor
MATERIAL: carbon steel
HANDLE MATERIAL: Ultra compressed beech wood
CUT: hollow
BLADE WIDTH: 5/8"
DIMENSIONS: 14.5cm x 2.4cm x 1.1cm
MATERIAL
This straight razor is made of carbon steel with the material designation 1.2210, better known as silver steel. In order to achieve a hardness of around 61 HRC, the material is heated to over 1000 degrees and then immediately quenched with a special oil. The subsequent tempering at around 200 degrees gives the blade elasticity and toughness.
HANDLE MATERIAL
The exclusive handle combines tradition with modernity. The sustainable SwissWood beech wood from Switzerland is brought to an incredibly high level of hardness through an innovative compression process, so that the wood defies the adversities of water and soap and is therefore in no way inferior to the longevity of the blade.
CUT
When hollow grinding, the straight razor is ground concavely from the back to the cutting edge. This design combines great flexibility with high torsional rigidity in the longitudinal form. The blade dynamics ensure a gentle shave accompanied by a very characteristic sound, which is triggered by the swinging of the razor when cutting the hair.
BLADE WIDTH
Straight razors in the size 5/8 inch are real all-rounders and can handle every task related to the classic wet shave with flying colors. The blade is relatively heavy and can therefore glide gently over your skin without much pressure. At the same time, it is still agile enough to be able to manage technically demanding passages around the nose, ears and chin with agility.
APPLICATION
Your shave begins with honing the knife on a belt. After generously smearing your face with shaving cream or shaving oil, grip the knife with the open handle pointing away from you. With your free hand, stretch your facial skin to form as straight an area as possible. Position the knife at an angle of about 30° and gently scrape your beard with it. First with the line, then across and finally against the direction of growth.
CARE
Most razors are made from carbon steel. To avoid stains on it, rinse your knife with warm water after shaving. Now pat it dry with a cloth without touching the cutting edge and store it open in a dry place. There should be at least 48 hours between two applications so that the stressed cutting burr can straighten itself out again. If you don't use your knife for a long time, coat it with an acid-free care oil.
