French & Indian War

Beekeeping/Bees

1755

This morning 25975 pounds of gunpowder were shipped for New England.

Some brass ordnance was also shipped this morning by the India Company for their settlements.

Original 1755 volume with far-ranging content as usual including some meaty bits on the ongoing French a& Indian War - Virginia, forts, Ohio, ships, cargo, gunpowder, troops, Quebec, Lake Oswego, Erie,  - as well as some scientific items and apparatuses (including some nifty engravings), and a comprehensive reporting on beehives and beekeeping, a recipe for dealing with the bite of a mad (rabid) dog, East India Company, Horseshoeing & horses, Poetry, & a great deal more. Volume is attractive with its old marbled boards and leather spine but it does show its age - loose hinges, binding worn, book holds together but there are spine cracks and a few pages are stained - the worst of the condition matters are illustrated in the photos above, about half of the engravings are missing including all the natural history ones. So, far from perfect but still intriguing and packed with history and the bookplate is of Edward Fiott who was a Captain in the East India Company in the 1700s. Scarce historic volume.
