(Holland) ca. 1800.
Very beautiful, exquisite Dutch dress-up game made up from c. 1800. Made up of a total of 33 hand-drawn cards (ink and watercolor drawings). It contains: 2 figure cards (male and female), 18 female costume cards, and 13 male costume cards. Size of the cards: c. 10 x 8 cm. The female dress cards are not all designated to a certain regions, but those that are show costumes from Britanny, North Holland, France, Greece, England, Brabant, Bern, Oberhasli (near Zürich). The cards not described by hand probably show female costumes from other regions in France and the Low Countries, as well as at least one from an Asian country. Some of the male cards are described through handwriting under the image they show male costumes from: Batavia, Holland and China, and for some specific professions or functions: judge/lawyer, farmer, royal guard. The costume cards function as an overlay for the two figures and provide an animated game on the subject of various costumes and attire from regions within Europe and Asia. Figure cards slightly stained, the costume cards only partly slightly stained and with a few very minor tears, otherwise in very good condition. Very rare manuscript costume game from the early 19th century.
