A pair of unusual vintage hatpins with bright pink balls made of some kind of early plastic. As can be seen from the shattered one, there is a clear top coating over a pink substance. Each has a chain, this would have had a second pink ball attached. The chains could be removed or have some other bauble attached.  The pink looks influenced by Schiaparelli Pink, popular in the late 1930s-1940s.

To my eye the style looks 1940s, symmetry was in with matched dress clips etc, and though hats were generally small, they could be quite fantastical and surreal. Overall these hatpins seem rather cobbled together and the pins are more bendy than is usual. It makes me wonder if this is a WW2 era "make-do-and-mend" set, created from spare parts. I have a few similar pairs, see my other hatpin listings.

Total length each hatpin approx 4.5 in / 11 cm. Ball diameter 2.5 cm. See with hand or ruler for scale.

CONDITION:
One ball is in intact. The other has a shattered area. They are missing second balls which would have been attached to the chains. The pins are unusually bendy. See photos for details.

POSTAGE:
Large pins have to be sent as small parcel, hence postage price. I do combine postage for UK buyers. If you buy more than one item any excess postage will be refunded. Note that I cannot combine postage for non-UK buyers, as eBay's Global Shipping Program does not permit it.
