Always seen with crack, light strike, and a rough planchet as result of rusted dies. Originally, the design was for a button made by Hugh Wishart of New York City. Side One: T DUSEAMAN BUTCHER BELLEVILLE. An error was made. Instead of T. D. Seaman as it was ordered an errant “U” was inserted which likely made the token worthless to Mr. Seaman. Side Two: AGRICULTURE & COMMERCE / BAS CANADA. Side Two was also used on a Canadian bouquet Sou token (Breton 670-see below). It would be no surprise to discover that these tokens were discounted and marketed to those seeking cheap general-purpose tokens.
