The item for sale is a color pastel drawing of a circus scene created around the middle of the twentieth century by the American artist Frederick Robbins Childs.  The artist studied art in France at the studio of Andre Lhote, a cubist painter.  It is not hard to see the influence of Lhote in the drawing with its dark outlines and geometric shape.  The drawing is a bit abstract in its subjects but there is an identifiable woman riding a small elephant.  The pastel is not signed.  It is from an auction of the artist's estate conducted by Alderfer Auctions, Hatfield, PA during July 2023.  The pastel was recently framed. Prior to this, it has probably been in storage since its creation.  The frame is used and shows some minor wear and abrasions to the finish.  The mat window size is 20 1/2" x 16".  The framed size is 26 1/2" x 20 1/2".
