Recanati Macsound Leslie-Type Amplifier Rotary Speaker - COLLECTION ONLY

An Italian-made amplifier / rotary speaker of the Leslie-type - a Leslie clone.

It has three inputs, all with quarter-inch (6.35mm) jacks.

It is in exceptional physical condition because it appears to have spent its entire life unused AND covered with a PVC cover (there wasn’t a speck of dust on it, and it has definitely been stored dry). The fabric frets are immaculate. It is probably about 35-40 years old, but looks like it was made yesterday (it was fitted with an old 1970s bakelite mains plug which I have replaced with a modern safety plug).

With regard to operational condition, I would suggest that some remedial re-commisioning may be required because of its age and lack of use. Certainly, if the buyer wishes to get the most out of it, they will need to make up a double-footswitch and this may require some familiarity with electric wiring and a multimeter (I just don’t have the time).

Because it hasn’t been used in decades, I powered it up very gently using a current-limiting Variac in order to chemically reform the capacitors and not shock them by simply plugging it in. This enabled me to undertake basic testing on it. I expect the capacitors in the power supply will probably need to be replaced in due course for no other reason than they are just ‘old’.

I acquired this some time ago and at the time it did not come with its original footswitch*, so the project got put on the back-burner because the socket on the machine for the footswitch was non-standard. By a complete fluke, I spotted the correct plug on a Danish ship-to-shore VHF radio which was about to be scrapped and I recovered the plug with a tail of wire. So, now it does have the correct plug which could easily be wired up to a double-footswitch* but the footswitch is not included. Basic on/off footswitches are cheap on eBay.

I still have one issue with the machine which is that I don’t know how the plug should be wired up. In order to work it out, the front panel needs to be removed. The problem is that the front panel does not want to come off. I removed all of the screws on the panel (see final photo for an example of the screws and the gap) but the panel is wedged in and will probably need something like GT85 spray (lubrication spray) and some 'persuasion tools' to remove it (I just don’t have the time for this). Although I haven’t taken the cover off, I expect, judging by the weight and age, that the amplifer is a solid-state transistor amplifier and NOT a valve amp. The output power is unknown but it sounds quite loud when a guitar is plugged in. Furthermore, the potentiometer knobs aren’t too scratchy which is interesting for an amp of this age.

* I found a photograph of the relevant double footswitch online and one switch turns the motor on and off, and the other swtich is marked ‘Spacesound / Choral’, so presumably it has two modes.

The approximate dimensions are:

60cm (H) x 57cm (W) x 51cm (D)

Please take note of these dimensions if you plan to collect it in a car. It will NOT go through the rear door of a saloon car, and may only fit into the hatch of larger hatchbacks or estate cars.

This item is for collection in person only, from Guildford. You must come and collect it in person, which means I will not pack it for your courier, put it on a pallet, or hand it over to a courier unpackaged. I will only hand it over to the buyer, and will not hand it over to ANY other representative.

Any request to ship it in any way, will be ignored and you will not receive a response.

After payment, please contact me to arrange a time to collect - please do not drive straight over because goods are NOT kept on site at the registered business address, but are kept in a warehouse. (Sorry if this sounds a bit blunt, but I once had a buyer just turn up after buying an item, and because I wasn’t around he went into next door’s garden looking for me! My neighbour was not happy that a strange person was in her garden!).

Very Important: When you come to collect this, please bring the collection code generated by eBay OR bring a mobile phone with the eBay App on it (which can generate the code). If you don’t bring this, I will not be able to release the item to you.
