Introduction: Mi-8 Helicopter (Russian: Вертолет Ми- 8; NATO code name: Hippopotamus, Chinese: Hippopotamus) is a medium-sized transport helicopter developed by the Mili Design Bureau of the former Soviet Union. The Mi-8 helicopter was developed by Miri Moscow Helicopter Manufacturing Joint Stock Company and produced by Kazan Aircraft Manufacturing Factory. The Mi-8 is a large helicopter with two engines and five blades with a single rotor. In 1964, the Mi-8 began production. It is the world's largest helicopter in production, known as the "Kalashnikov" in the helicopter kingdom. In the 1970s, China introduced the Mi-8 helicopter together with the Mi-6 and alleviated the problem of insufficient personnel delivery force. It is now retired together with the Mi-6. After the normalization of Sino Soviet relations, China began to purchase a large number of improved versions of the Mi-8- the Mi-171 helicopter. It played an important role in the flood control of the Yangtze River in 1998, the rain, snow, and freezing disaster in the southern region in early 2008, the Wenchuan earthquake in May 2008, and simulation exercises in various military regions.
