Raised Moriage Lucky Cat Porcelain Bud Vase

New, Made in Japan

Description

Porcelain bud vase featuring elaborately hand-painted maneki neko (lucky cat) with raised moriage detail (also called Icchin Moriage in Japanese) and intricate beaded decorations. The entire body features a meticulous reticulated pattern with lavish gold patches.
With a hole on top of the head, it is in fact intended as a tokkuri, Japanese sake (rice wine ) bottle. But it can also be used as a bud vase or pen holder.
The lucky cat (Maneki Neko) is a guardian statue often seen at the entrances of stores and homes in many countries in Asia. It is believed to bring good luck and prosperity to its owner.
Fill it with a few pretty blooms, and this lucky cat will add even more appeal to your entrance, or the maneki neko pen holder will be the perfect ornament that will brighten up your desktop. This moriage lucky cat will attract your guests' attention and also more good luck into your home or office.

  • Size: 4.5" Tall x 3" Long (11.5 cm x 7.8 cm)
  • Condition: New.
  • Made in Seto, Japan.
  • It has an impressed mark on the bottom that I cannot read. The manufacturer also has no idea who used the mark or to whom the mold originally belonged.

See HERE for more maneki neko and other feline figurines.

This item is a Seto-yaki porcelain figurine. 'Seto-yaki' is a general term for porcelain products made in Seto Japan, which includes all kinds of porcelain items from decorative figurines to chinaware for daily use. Seto is a city located in the center of Japan, and is also the center for Japan's ceramics industry. From Occupied Japan Era to the late '70s, Seto-yaki under various brand names used to be exported worldwide. Seto-yaki, now mostly for domestic sales, is still the most produced ceramic products in Japan.

About My Store

My store provides Japanese Seto-yaki porcelain products. 'Seto-yaki', such as this item, is a general term for porcelain products made in Seto Japan.
Seto is a city located in the center of Japan, and is also the center for Japan's ceramics industry.
From Occupied Japan Era to the late '70s, Seto-yaki items used to be exported worldwide. However, as the ceramics industry has been declining year by year, many manufacturers have been forced to shut down their factories in the last few decades. Now there are still lots of vintage products and reproductions available from manufacturers/retailers out there. If you want to find treasure pieces in Japan, you're welcome to visit my ebay store at any time.
