Leiter der plastischen Formgestaltung in Meissen von 1742 bis 1775.
Er ist der bekannteste und berühmteste Meissener Modelleur und war für die
Gestaltung berühmter Serien wie Schäferfiguren, Komödiantenkinder,
Gärtnerkinder (zusammen mit Acier), Pariser Ausrufer (mit
Reinicke und Meyer), Galante Figurengruppen, etc. verantwortlich.
Kändler entwarf dieses Modell um 1748.
ADVOKATO AUS DER COMMEDIA DELL'ARTE
Der Komödiant trägt einen rosafarbenen Hut mit
breiter Krempe, die vorne und hinten aufgebogen und
mit Blumenschmuck versehen ist, auf seiner Perücke
mit langem, im Nacken zusammengebundenem Haar, sein kräftiger Körper ist in einen
weißen, bodenlangen, mit blauen Rosetten besetzten
Mantel mit besonders weiten Ärmeln gehüllt, darunter
sind schwarze Kniehosen, ein roter Gehrock mit
Goldknöpfen, weiße Strümpfe und schwarze
Schnallenschuhe zu sehen. Seine Hände hält er in
wohl argumentierender Geste vor sich.
Die Figur wird von hinten durch einen Baumstamm gestützt und basiert
auf rundem Wiesensockel mit plastischem Blumen- und
Blattwerk.
Dieses Modell existiert auch als Version mit Maske.
Höfische Feste im Barock und Rokoko waren
repräsentative Gesamtkunstwerke. Sie dauerten Tage,
Wochen oder Monate. Maskenball, Oper, Jagd,
Feuerwerk und Illumination gehörten zum
abwechslungsreichen Amüsement des Hofstaats - ebenso
wie die Commedia dell´Arte, ursprünglich eine Form
des italienischen Volkstheaters, das auf Masken und
Figuren mit festgelegten Charakteren basierte. Aus
der Faszination für jene Schauspielertypen heraus,
griff Johann Joachim Kaendler die Commedia dell´Arte
zu Beginn der 1770er-Jahre thematisch auf und schuf
die Figuren erstmals in Meissener Porzellan. Ihre
theatralischen Gesten und Körperhaltungen,
ausdrucksvolle Mimik und farbenfrohen Kostüme mit
enganliegenden Beinkleidern entsprachen vor allem
Kaendlers Interesse an bewegten Figuren. Wie damals
üblich, dienten u.a. Kupferstiche von Jean-Antoine
Watteau, Jacques Callot sowie Einflüsse des
aufkommenden Klassizismus als seine Vorlagen.

chief sculptor at the Meissen manufactory from 1742
to 1775. He is the most famous modeller Meissen
manufactory ever had and created famous series such
as Shepherd Figurines, Comedian's Children, Gardener
Children (with Acier), Paris Town Criers
(with Reinicke and Meyer) , Gallant Figurines, etc.
Kaendler designed this model circa 1741, revised by
him in 1744.
ADVOKATO FROM THE COMMEDIA DELL'ARTE
The comedian wears a pink hat with a wide brim that is turned up at the front and back and adorned with floral decorations,
on his wig with long hair tied at the nape of the neck, his powerful body is draped in a white, floor-length coat with extra voluminous
sleeves, adorned with blue rosettes, underneath are black breeches, a red frock coat with gold buttons, white stockings, and black buckled shoes.
He holds his hands in front of him in a well-arguing gesture.
The figure is supported from behind by a tree trunk and is based on a round meadow base with three-dimensional flowers and foliage.
This model also exists as a version with a mask.
Court festivals in the baroque and rococo periods
were representative total works of art. They lasted
days, weeks, or months. Masked ball, opera, hunt,
fireworks and illumination were part of the varied
amusement of the court - as was the Commedia
dell'Arte, originally a form of Italian folk theater
based on masks and figures with defined characters.
Out of fascination for those types of actors, Johann
Joachim Kaendler took up the Commedia dell'Arte
thematically at the beginning of the 1770s and
created the figures for the first time in Meissen
porcelain. Their theatrical gestures and postures,
expressive facial expressions and colorful costumes
with tight-fitting trousers corresponded above all
to Kaendler's interest in moving figures. As was
customary at the time, among others Copper
engravings by Jean-Antoine Watteau, Jacques Callot
and influences of the emerging classicism as his
