44 cent stamp commemorating the visit of Pope John Paul II to Columbia, South Carolina, September 111, 1987.  Stamp was issued by the USPS and honors Father Junipero Serra who was among the Spanish explorers who first claimed the land that today is California.  Father Serra established the first missions that eventually grew to include 21 settlements from San Diego to San Francisco.  Four pages, 9" x 7"; gold embossed front cover.  Stamp is lightly cancelled.  Slight edge wear; otherwise, very good.
