SPECTACULAR 1850 1/4 PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE - "MAN WEARING I.O.O.F. APRON & VESTMENTS" - IN FULL LEATHER CASE - I use the word spectacular carefully when listing my items, but this hand tinted quarter plate deserves this descriptive term in my opinion. I am not 100% as to what fraternal organization this man. was a member of, however, the symbol of the "Eye" at the top of his apron I have seen used in other "Independent Order Odd Fellow" vestments. I would date this likeness right around 1850 based on the style of mat and case. I love how the operator isolated his subject against a dark background. Again, spectacular details can be seen throughout this incredible quarter plate. Note the hand tinting to his face and the tablecloth in which he rests his hand. A fantastic early daguerreotype of a member of the Odd Fellows fraternal organization. Good luck to the next caretaker of this fabulous fraternal gentleman's portrait.

CONDITION: Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The quarter plate daguerreotype contains excellent contrast, tonal range and superb sharpness. The plate has been resealed with P90 and new cover glass added. The image has a few very minor spots on the background of the plate, but overall almost like the day the image was created. The leatherette case retains the original hinge; the interior portion remains strong, but the exterior portion is split (See my last listing photo.) Otherwise, the case is in beautiful condition with both working clasps and stunning velvet pillow. Super rare subject matter makes this image highly desirable by many 19th Century photo collectors and collectors of early American Fraternal organizations. Good luck to my winner and next caretaker. I will ship this item to the winner carefully packaged by way of Priority Mail for Free.
