Asia: Carpenter's Geographical Reader, Frank G Carpenter, 1897, American Book.
- 1st Edition. (deduced)
- 5.5 x 7.5 inches approx.; 307 pages including Index; hdbk.

from Preface: "...aims to give a simple description of the peoples and countries of Asia as they are today. ... Instead of the title chosen, the book might be called: A trip through Asia with the children...."

- heavily illustrated...perhaps 150 illustrations, some sketches but mostly vintage photos.  Several color maps, some large, but many 1/4 page size.

- Note: very entertaining portrayal, through photos and text, Asian countries in the late 1800's.  Note that the book was written before World War I, and the changes which have come since to the several maps are also entertaining.

- from Internet:   For more than 20 years, Carpenter's Geographical Readers have held a large place in the teaching of geography. The have supplied the flesh and blood necessary to clothe the dry bones of the geographical text books, and make the countries and peoples living entities in the minds of the peoples.
The original books have all the charm of a story. The pupil was so interested that the reading of carpenter was viewed as a pleasure, not a task. When these readers were first issued many well-known instructors said they marked a new era in the teaching of geography.
