Description:

London: Finningans, with their stamp to the rear paste down, undated large blank note or art volume.

93 blank leaves or 186 blank pages, rough cut edges, top edges gilt.

With a hand painted illustration of the front of a building or house, signed at the base left or right – see photos.

Full leather binding without titles to the spine or internally. The paper is watermarked ARCHES [famous for their watercolour paper]. The watermark is with ‘hollow’ letters to some pages and with what looks like a trifoliate mark to others.

The house of Finnigans was a British luxury luggage and trunk maker established in 1830, originally in Manchester and later in New Bond Street in London.

The house of Finnigans was once one of the finest British leather goods maker and a successful luxury goods retailer. Renowned for its traditional know-how and craftsmanship Finnigans manufactured and produced a wide range of luxury products, including trunks, bags, fashion, jewellery, timepieces and silverware.

• Spine – good condition – gilt decoration to 5 compartments, 4 raised bands, worn top and tail
• Joints – good condition – rubbed.
• Corners – good condition – bumped and worn.
• Boards – good condition – hand painted front board with a gilt decorated border, worn to the edges.
• Page edges – good condition – top edges gilt, others rough cut.

Internally

• Hinges – good condition – leather hinges, sound.
• Paste downs – good condition – cloth (silk?), green pattern.
• End papers – good condition – cloth (silk?), green pattern.
• Pages – good condition – clean, wrinkled to the beginning and end where affixed to the end paper cloth, browned to 2 pages where a document has left it’s mark.
• Binding – good condition – attractive binding.
