Full calf leather binding, with gilt titles to the spine (worn and faded), gilt filet to both boards, worn and rubbed. Portrait, pictorial and letterpress title pages, generally clean.  A tiny edition with small type font in the original Latin. 

"The Publius Virgilius Maro of 1821 has an engraved portrait by Grave and engraved and printed titles.  According to Sheringham in his article in The Connoisseur of November 1902, this is the rarest of the diamond classics as "only a hundred copies survived a fire" at the printers, and he adds that "a complete copy is becoming valuable”.

B&W frontispiece, engraved title page, [2], 4-283 pp, [1] advert, and Corrigenda slip.

Approximately 3 ¼ inches tall.

• Title – good condition – foxed, lightly tanned.
• Pages – good condition – portrait frontispiece ‘Virgilius’, small text in the original Latin, tanned and foxed throughout.
