Medieval Figure - the Order of Knights of the Hospital of John of Jerusalem.  

A much-loved group of Knights of the Religious Military Order, founded in the 11th Century.  The order was founded to provide care to the poor and sick and subsequently took up arms to defend the pilgrims visiting the Holy Land, in part due to the rise of the Templars.  The Hospitaller Knights relocated and continued to defend Christendom and remained active long after the Crusades and the Middle Ages – their order survives to this day.
