An antique Victorian (1860-1862, given the Mappin mark) Mappin & Company footed tray, with talon-type tripod feet and extensive engraving.

It is, unfortunately, in need of significant replating (or acceptance of its current state!).

It is a rare piece, given that this Mappin mark was only used for a couple of years, before Mappin & Company became Mappin & Webb.

The backstamp reads:
"Mappin & Company / Sheffield / 71 & 72 Cornhill City / 77 & 78 Oxford St. London"

It then has the model number struck underneath it of 1075.

Size: 30cm diameter approx. Stands at a height of around 3cm.

Weight: 790g approx

Condition - Significant plating loss to the top, throughout, but especially over engraved area and high points. Surface marks / scratches. The bottom does not have the same yellowed plating loss, but has some 'blue-ing' around the edges and a small (0.4cm diameter) spot of plating loss. Backstamp is clear and precise, although is on there twice as obviously the first time it wasn't struck soundly.
