Royal Worcester Grainger Works dated 1873, unsigned, a miniature mug which may have been as a pattern piece to be shown in the store for customers to make selections. Hand painted and very fine porcelain which is partly transparent.

Thomas Grainger (1783-1839), established a porcelain decorating company in Lowesmore, Worcester, in 1801. In 1806, the firm became Grainger, Wood & Wilkin. In 1807, Grainger & Wood began manufacturing their own porcelain blanks.

When James Wilkins left the firm it 1808, the name changed to Grainger, Wood & Company. and built a new factory at St. Martin’s Gate, Worcester.

The company operated under the name of Thomas Grainger & Co. and became Grainger, Lee & Co. in 1814

When Thomas Grainger died in 1839, his son George took over and the company was renamed George Grainger & Company. George introduced the Neo-Classical design style to the company’s products. He diversified the product line by adding door furniture, unglazed figurines, and embossed fireplace tiles. 

Following George Grainger’s death in 1889, Royal Worcester purchased the company. .
