Yu-Gi-Oh! (Japanese: 遊☆戯☆王 Yū-Gi-Ō "King of Games") is a manga series first published in 1996 by Japanese artist Kazuki Takahashi, which has also been adapted into an anime and includes a number of merchandising products, including the internationally successful Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading card game.
The focus of the plot of the manga and the anime, both of which can be assigned to the shōnen genre, is the initially lonely sixteen-year-old student Yugi, who releases the spirit of an ancient pharaoh by putting together an Egyptian puzzle and wins him as a friend.
