Overall Very Good - Excellent condition for this vintage 1947 Lionel #444 Construction Kit. Only made 1947-9, this is a very hard to find Lionel Construction Kit in this condition and level of completeness! Completeness is unknown, as I could not find an inventory list for this set. Box has paint loss, rust, a few minor dings and has a little tweak to it to open and close lid, very minor. Inside shows minor signs of use. Awesome graphics decal sticker on inside lid. An estate auction find found in disarray, I was able to reconstruct, the best I could, from a copy of an advertisement, the layouts as presented. I will include that sheet. I did use clear tape to hold some of the displays in place. They can be removed. Inserts have deep cobalt blue wrapped and taped boxes that do have storage wear, flattened corners on middle layer frame. I have over 100 pics of this extremely rare example of Lionel's attempt to go after A.C. Gilbert's Erector Sets successes. It did not go well, so finding survivors like this one is a rare find. Lionel used a "rivet" and rubber keeper instead of nuts and bolts, seen in picture of back side of a display. Some of the pieces are held in place with rivets and rubber nuts. The motor works as it should. Made of mostly aluminum pieces, which are all like new, there is some rust on some of the steel clips. There are 2 strings, both having their original metal bands. Comes with manual, that has separated from cover, and a sell sheet. Please see pictures for details as they're the best description. Oh, and it does have a little musty smell to it, old cardboard, but is very clean. It measures about 20-1/2" wide. Don't miss this one!
