As a result, today modern vehicles are equipped with oxygen sensors that control the fuel and ignition systems to optimize vehicle performance in the areas of fuel economy and emissions. Generally, a vehicle is equipped with two oxygen sensors located before and after the catalytic converter. They check the amount of oxygen in the exhaust and send signals to the vehicle's on-board computer that regulates the air/fuel mixture and monitors catalytic converter function to ensure proper engine performance, optimum mileage, and low emission of air pollutants from the vehicle.
