Mush!

This amazing vintage coat has been lovingly hand-embroidered with polar bears , mountains, trees, the sun, and an Eskimo cuddling their husky dog!

Presumed to be from the 1940s or 1950s, due to the design of the Lightning branded zip.

It has two hip pockets, plus a drawstring pointed hood, trimmed with real fox fur to keep the snow out, in keeping with its origins from Canada or Alaska.

I don’t usually sell fur, and the trim can be removed from the edge of the hood and drawstring with scissors, but I have left it in place to show the coat in its original design- please ask if you would prefer to buy the coat fur-free, which I completely appreciate! I can find some wooden beads to finish off the drawstring instead!

Camel-coloured wool with dark brown blanket stitching around the pockets and hems, and a beige lining.

There’s a small hole on the inside of the lining, near the bottom hem, and some dark, age-related spots inside the lining of the coat (please ask for more photos if necessary), but the coat is otherwise in fabulous original condition!

The polar bears have cute smiley faces, and the quality of the embroidery is great!

The chest is 44” and the waist measures 42”, so this coat is around size 16-18 women’s, medium-large men’s, given that the wool is quite dense, so it may fit slightly smaller than measured.

Shoulder to shoulder is 21” and shoulder to hem measures 31”.

The wool is similar to that of a traditional duffel coat, in a warm, camel colour, which makes a great neutral shade.

The coat shape is known as a parka, designed to keep out the ice and snow near to the North Pole!

These decorative, embroidered coats are original midcentury souvenir pieces, and retain tons of charm!
