Joan Miró

 April 20, 1893 - December 25, 1983

 Spanish painter of the 20th century. Born in Catalonia.

 He is usually classified as a Surrealist because of his participation in the Surrealist movement in Paris.

 However, he is usually classified as a Surrealist because of his participation in the Surrealist movement in Paris, but he is also known for his paintings of figures, birds, and other objects that are intensely deformed.


Biography

 Born in Barcelona, Spain, 1893.

 Studied under Francesc da Galí Fabra from 1912 to 1915.

     1912-15 Studied at the Francesc da Galí Fabra, where he learned, among other things, to close his eyes and touch the subject in order to make a drawing.

 1918 First solo exhibition at the Dalmau Gallery.

 1920 Makes his first trip to Paris.

 1924 He meets André Breton and others and joins the Surrealist movement.

 1925 Exhibits at the "Surrealist Paintings" exhibition at the Galerie Pierre.

 1929 Marries Pilar Juncosa.

 1930 Solo exhibition at the Pierre Gallery.

     First solo exhibition in the U.S. at the Valentine Gallery in New York.

 1932 Settles in Barcelona.

     First solo exhibition at the Pierre Matisse Gallery in New York.

 1936: Remains in Paris due to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War.

 1937 Produces The Reapers for the Spanish Pavilion at the Paris Exposition Universelle.

 1940 Moves to Palma, Majorca.

 1941 Completed a series of Constellations.

 1944 Produced his first bronze sculpture.

 1970 Produced a mural for the Osaka World's Fair.

 1976 The Miró Foundation was officially opened.

 1983 Died in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
