Buff cloth, Volume I ONLY, oblong format with painted covers, 24 collotyped hand painted colour photos.

A fascinating look at an earlier Japan. The photographer & publisher's name is shown only on the title of Volume II (not present here).

Tamamura Kōzaburō (玉村 康三郎) (1856-1923?) was a Japanese photographer. In 1874 he opened a photographic studio in Asakusa, Tokyo and subsequently moved to Yokohama in 1883, opening his most successful studio. He was an originator of the Yokohama shashin photographic scene. His studio was still operating in 1909. (Wikipedia).

This title originally issued complete in 3 volumes:

Vol I – Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Kobe & Nagasaki;

[Vol II – Yokohama, Kamakura, Mt. Fuji & Nagoya;

Vol III – Tokio & Nikko.]

The black and white collotype photographs are enhanced with hand painted embellishments on 24 pages + title page, each page has a tissue guard.

Provenance – stamp for M Fuji & Co. to the title page.

Approximately 6 inches tall; 23 x 15.5 cm.
